Coast Capital is unable to open a business membership for businesses incorporated in Quebec or outside of Canada.

Business Requirements

Sole Proprietorship

  1. Statement of Registration or Business License confirming your business name

General Partnership

  1. Partnership Agreement
  2. If your Partnership Agreement was not drawn up by a lawyer, also bring one of the following:
    • Statement of Registration or General Partnership Summary from the Corporate Registry, or
    • Business License confirming your business name
  3. If your Partnership Agreement does not detail the percentage each partner owns, also bring documentation that lists individuals who own or control 25% or more of the business (e.g. Central Securities Register, Incorporation Agreement, Shares Certificates, Record of Shareholders
  4. All partners identified in the partnership agreement must sign to open a membership for the partnership however, only two need to meet the credit bureau requirements

Limited Company Incorporated in BC

  1. Notice of Articles
  2. Documentation that lists individuals who own or control 25% or more of the business (e.g. Central Securities Register, Incorporation Agreement, Shares Certificates, Record of Shareholders)
  3. There is a minimum number of directors, taken from the Notice of articles, for membership opening
    • If the company has two or more directors: At least two directors must meet credit bureau requirements and sign to open the membership
    • If the company has only one director: That one director must meet credit bureau requirements and sign to open the membership

Corporations operating for longer than one year must also bring one of the following:

  • Latest annual report or filing receipt, or
  • Recent tax filing (Notice of Assessment, GST/PST remittance), or
  • Current Business License

Incorporated Association or Society

  1. Constitution
  2. Bylaws
  3. Statement of Directors and Registered Office, or BC Society Summary confirming the names of the Directors
  4. Documentation that lists individuals who own or control 25% or more of the business (e.g. Central Securities Register, Incorporation Agreement, Shares Certificates, Record of Shareholders)

Associations/societies operating for longer than one year must also bring one of the following:

  • Latest annual report or filing receipt, or
  • Registered Charity Information Return Summary from CRA, or
  • Recent tax filing (Notice of Assessment, GST/PST remittance), or
  • Current Business License

Membership Equity Shares

Once your membership is approved, the business will purchase $5 in Membership Equity Shares. It’s a one-time investment giving the business a say in how we do business via the Board of Directors.

Identification

Each signer must bring:

  1. 1 piece of Government-issued photo ID :
    • Driver’s license1
    • Passport2
    • Nexus card
    • Indian Status card3
    • National Defense ID4
    • Permanent Resident card1
    • Provincial Health ID card5
    • Provincial ID card1
    • CNIB card 12

  2. 1 secondary non-photo ID:
    • Credit card6
    • Birth certificate1
    • Social Insurance Number card1
    • Old age security card7
    • Bank, ATM or Client Card8
    • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship9
    • Certificate of Naturalization9
    • Citizen and Immigration Canada Form10
    • Employee ID Card (with photo)11
    • Provincial Health Card5

  3. Social Insurance Number (SIN) if not already a Coast Capital member

Who needs to attend and what to bring

For changing signers after a business membership has been opened, review the Change of Signers checklist and the below identification requirements for each signer.

Each signer must bring:

  1. 1 piece of Government-issued photo ID:
    1. Driver’s license1
    2. Passport2

    4. Indian Status card3
    5. National Defense ID4
    6. Permanent Resident card1
    7. Provincial Health ID card5
    8. Provincial ID card1

For the members that have completed the Business Money Builder

    • Your Business Advisor will review your Business Money Builder results and discuss a custom plan for your business during your next appointment.
    • Minimum of one business signer is required to attend with 1 piece of Government-issued photo ID.

For the members that have not completed the Business Money Builder

    • We recommend completing Business Money Builder online.

How to access Business Money Builder:

a. Sign in to Coast Online® Banking or the Coast Mobile App®

b. Select Money Tools from the menu

c. Select Business Money Builder to get started

    • If you prefer to have the BMB completed in person, only one business signer needs to attend and bring identification.

Other Advice & Planning appointment

    • Minimum of one business signer is required to attend with 1 piece of Government-issued photo ID.
  1. Issued in Canada only
  2. Does not include temporary passports
  3. Indian Status Card/Certificate of Indian Status – issued by the Government of Canada
  4. Issued in Canada only. Temporary (purple) cards not acceptable.
  5. Canadian Provinces/Territories (excluding ON, MB or PEI). For applicants 19+, the document must be photo ID. If under 19, non-photo is acceptable.
  6. Issued by member of Canadian Payment Association (with individual’s name printed/embossed on front of card and signature on back of card). Prepaid credit cards (gift cards) cannot be accepted as identification.
  7. With SIN number of applicant on the card
  8. Issued by member of Canadian Payment Association, with applicant’s name printed/embossed on front of card, and signature on back of card
  9. Paper document or card. Does not include commemorative certificates.
  10. Form IMM 1000 – Record of Landing
    Form IMM 1442 – Visitor Record / Work Permit / Study Permit
    Form IMM 5292 – Confirmation of Permanent Residence
  11. Issued by an employer well known in the community (e.g. BC Hydro, Canada Revenue Agency, Canada Post, South Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Island Health Authority, Microsoft, TELUS).
  12. Issued in Canada and contains a photo and signature
