Frequently asked questions

motusbank, a digital subsidiary of Meridian Credit Union, is winding down operations by the end of 2025 as Meridian shifts its focus to growing its core credit union operations in Ontario.

Transitioning certain motusbank accounts to Coast Capital ensures motusbank members continue to receive service through a trusted Canadian credit union.

Regulatory approval has been received — you’ll officially be a Coast Capital member on November 1. Until then, you’re still a motusbank member and can continue banking with them as you always have.

The transition will happen in several phases:

  • Regulatory approval: We have received all required regulatory approvals and will proceed with the official transition on November 1.
  • October — Moving preparations (Current phase): You’ll receive everything you need to bank with Coast Capital, including your new debit card, account details, and instructions. NoteWe are working with alternative delivery partners to ensure your receive all the required information despite the current Canada Post service disruptions.
  • Late October — Digital banking setup: Use the last 8 digits of your new debit card and the personal access code provided to sign up for digital banking.
  • November 1 — Moving day: You’ll officially become a Coast Capital member and can start banking online, by phone, or at ATMs.

While Coast Capital and motusbank are working together to make the experience as seamless as possible, your action is key to being fully set up and ready to bank immediately after the transition.

To help you prepare, we’ve outlined the essential tasks that require your attention—such as activating your Coast Capital debit card, setting up online banking, and confirming your account details. You can find detailed instructions and support for each step.

There is nothing for you to do. Your motusbank accounts will transition and be viewable through your existing Coast Capital digital banking account as of November 1.

You will receive an additional Coast Capital debit card specifically for your transitioned motusbank accounts. Your existing Coast Capital online credentials can be used to transact using that card.

When you move over to Coast Capital, you will move to an account that is comparable to the account(s) you currently hold at motusbank. Find detailed information about account changes.

As part of the transition of motusbank accounts to Coast Capital, all active accounts and related information will be transitioned to Coast Capital effective November 1.

In the meantime, however, motusbank is sharing accounts and related information in order for Coast Capital to set up migrating members’ profiles, products and services on its system, equip members to bank with us immediately following November 1 and to communicate with members about the same.
As you have closed your motusbank account after this information was shared between our organizations, Coast Capital systems have not yet been updated to reflect this change.

Any motusbank accounts that have since been closed will be deleted from our systems shortly after November 1 as updated information is shared with Coast Capital. No new accounts will be set up for you at Coast Capital.

You may disregard any Coast Capital communications you receive until that time. We apologize for any confusion or concern that this has caused.

Both Coast Capital and motusbank are applying high standard digital security processes to ensure that any shared personal information is safe, secure and remains confidential. As a federally regulated credit union, Coast Capital’s collection, use and disclosure of personal information is governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its associated regulations.

The motusbank transit number — a unique 5-digit code used to route financial transactions such as direct deposits, wire transfers, and bill payments—is being seamlessly integrated into Coast Capital’s systems. Starting  November 1, your motusbank transit number 20002 will be directed to Coast Capital’s Advice Centre transit number 30250.

By retaining your existing transit number, we’re able to maintain continuity and minimize disruption during your transition to Coast Capital.

After November 1, motusbank members will receive updated terms and conditions, with a special offer for eligible borrowers. The updated terms and conditions will be materially similar to your current motusbank terms and conditions, except for the changes outlined here

To prepare you for the move to Coast Capital, we are providing early access to identify protection, in advance of the official transition on November 1. An email will be sent to eligible members(2) in early October, introducing you to the ID Assist, a free service included with your new Unlimited Chequing Account.

Safeguarding your identity is a top priority for us and ID Assist is a robust online monitoring service designed to protect you from the complexities of identity theft. Upon receipt of the email, you’ll be able to activate your plan with the provide instructions.

To access Coast Capital’s digital banking, you must have a chequing or savings account linked to a Coast Capital debit card.

These credentials are essential for setting up your online access and enabling you to view your accounts, make transactions, and manage your finances digitally.

In some cases, motusbank members may not be transitioning with an eligible chequing or savings account, which means they aren’t able to register or log in to digital banking right away. After November 1, these members will receive an email invitation to sign up for a new account.

Most members2 will receive their debit card by mail before October 31. Joint account holders will each receive a debit card. If you are already a Coast Capital member, you will receive an additional debit card for your motusbank accounts.

Be sure to activate your new debit card so you can access your funds immediately on November 1. Learn how to activate your debit card.

You can learn how to activate your debit card here.

In October, you will receive your debit card and personal access code — used to identify you and protect your account from unauthorized access.

Once you have these two pieces of information, you can sign up for digital banking and you’ll be automatically entered to win $2,5001. Plus if you sign up before November 1, you’ll be able to start transacting immediately following the transition on November 1. Learn how to sign up for digital banking.

If you had a motusbank No-Fee Chequing Account, your new Coast Capital Unlimited Chequing Account will continue to include unlimited Interac e-Transfers®.

Your Interac Profiles and auto deposits will be automatically transitioned from your motusbank account to your Coast Capital account by November 2. Learn more about Interac e-Transfers®.

No. Be sure to have no outstanding e-Transfers waiting to be accepted or received from your motusbank account, as these will not be processed after October 31. Any outgoing e-Transfers® pending on October 31 will be cancelled and the funds deposited back to your motusbank account ahead of the transition.

This is likely because the saved recipient you are attempting to send the e-Transfer to is missing the required security information within their recipient profile. You will need to update that information before sending your e-Transfer. You can do this by:

  1. Select Interac e-Transfers, then Manage Recipients
  2. Select the Edit icon next to the recipient
  3. Ensure the Security details section is complete
  4. Confirm changes

While most bill vendors set up in your motusbank online account will have transferred over to your Coast Capital profile, there are some differences in available bill payment vendors between motusbank and Coast Capital.

If one of your recipient vendors is unavailable on Coast Capital digital banking, there are a couple of options:

  • Find an alternative payment method (write a personal cheque, set up preauthorized debit, use your credit card to set up preauthorized payments or send an e-Transfer or wire)
  • Ask the vendor to get themselves added as a bill vendor on Coast Capital’s system. Your vendors can do that by emailing our partners at Central 1 at billers@central1.com with subject line ‘Biller Enrollment Inquiry’
