Do you have a child born in 2006? Only one week left to claim a $1,200 grant for their RESP!

Vancouver, BC – Coast Capital Savings is reminding caregivers with children born in 2006 (currently aged 12/13) that there is just one week left to take advantage of the B.C. Training and Education Savings Grant (BCTESG).

The BCTESG provides $1,200 to start or continue building a child’s RESP for future full-time studies at vocational schools, apprenticeships, trades training, college or university.

The grant application window applies to children between six and nine years of age. However, for kids who were six to nine years of age in the year the program launched (2006), an extension was granted to give parents ample time to register. As a result, the deadline for those born in 2006 is August 14.

“An astounding 40 per cent of families leave this grant unclaimed,” said Daryl Hosein, Vice President, Treasury, Coast Capital Savings. “We know that up to 70 per cent of careers now require some form of post-secondary education, and this grant can help shape a child’s future.”

Parents are encouraged to contact their financial institution for information on how to register a child for the Registered Education and Training Savings Grant. The parent or guardian plus the child must be residents of British Columbia.  Further information is also available through the BC Ministry of Education.
