Coast Capital Savings commits $50,000 to Red Cross wildfire relief and calls on B.C. businesses to join them in helping communities in crisis

Surrey, B.C., As much of B.C. remains blanketed in smoke from the more than 500 wildfires burning across the province, Coast Capital Savings, Canada’s largest credit union by membership, has committed $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross.

With thousands of British Columbians affected by evacuation orders and alerts, the Red Cross is appealing for donations to help with immediate and long term recovery needs.

“We are seeing one of the worst wildfire seasons in our province’s history,” says Coast Capital Interim President and CEO Bruce Schouten. “It’s crucial that individuals, charitable organizations and businesses together contribute to relief efforts and ensure those affected get the support they need when they need it. Coast Capital has a long history of helping British Columbian communities, and on behalf of our members, we are contributing $50,000 to Red Cross and we encourage other businesses to do the same.”

While well intentioned, goods such as water, clothes and toys can be difficult and expensive to move around. The Red Cross says the best way to help continues to be monetary donations. “We are incredibly grateful to Coast Capital Savings for their generous gift to support people impacted by the BC wildfires,” says Kimberley Nemrava, Canadian Red Cross Vice President B.C. & Yukon. “Financial donations like this will provide much needed help for people affected in the days and weeks ahead.”
