Bill Cooke

What do you do?

I hold an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and bring leadership, risk management, business acumen and broad governance experience to the Coast Capital Board.

What's your career background?

I retired in 2006 as CEO of MD Private Trust Company, a national, member-based investment and wealth management firm. I've also held senior management positions in public companies, financial institutions and the provincial government. I also sit on the board of Central 1.

What's your education?

I have an MBA and a BA from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina.

How are you involved in your community?

I serve as an Emergency Medical First Responder in the North Shuswap.

Bob Armstrong

What do you do?

At Coast Capital, I'm on the Board of Directors. The rest of the time I work with a number of companies and non-profit organizations in board and advisory roles.

What's your career background?

I trained as an accountant, moved into tax, then finance, then technology and innovation. I spent most of my career at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers where I was lucky enough to tackle a number of fun positions including CFO, COO and Chief Strategic Development Officer.

What's your education?

I'm a Chartered Professional Accountant and received my ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

What community initiative or program are you most passionate about and why?

I'm President of the Crescent Beach Swimming Club (CBSC). I learned how to swim, sail and play tennis during my summers as a kid at Crescent Beach. The CBSC has been a huge part of our family and is a great community organization.

Robin Chakrabarti

What do you do?

I'm one of the founding partners of Empresario Capital Partners, which currently has investment holdings and operational involvement in the foodservice, retail and automotive industries.

What's your career background?

I'm the past Chair of the Board of the non-profit Vancouver Society of Children's Centres and former director of Translink and We Care Health Services Inc. I'm currently a Director on the Boards of RAMMP Hospitality Brands Inc., and Valley Lube Holdings Ltd.

What's your education?

I hold an MBA from Simon Fraser University and an Honours BCom from McMaster University. I'm also a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

When you're not at work, what do you like to do with your time?

I coach and play hockey. Go Canucks go.

Mary Jordan

What do you do?

I'm currently the Chair of the Vancouver International Airport Authority, a director of Timberwest Forest Corp., and a director of Superior Plus Corporation. I bring financial literacy, human resources, and marketing and strategy skills to the Coast Capital board.

What's your career background?

My background is in the airline and transportation industry. I've held senior executive positions with American Airlines, Canadian Airlines and Air Canada. I've also served as the Provincial Executive Director of the BC Centre for Disease Control. And most recently, I was Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Communications at Laidlaw International.

What's your education?

I have an MBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

What community initiative or program are you most passionate about and why?

I am passionate about the important role of arts in our community and am currently involved with the Vancouver Opera.

Valerie Lambert

What do you do?

I’m currently the Executive Director for Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. This puts me at the helm of all aspects of community outreach, programming and funding for the organization. I also serve as a director for a number of corporate and not for profit organizations across British Columbia, including BC Hydro.

What's your career background?

I started my career as an auditor in Ontario, then moved out to beautiful British Columbia to continue my work in various finance roles in the resource sector. I’ve also had the pleasure of serving on the board of a number of amazing organizations, including The Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, and the BC Women’s Hospital Foundation Board as a founding member.

What's your education?

I hold an Honours B.A. in English and Commerce from the University of Toronto. I am also a Chartered Professional Accountant, registered in British Columbia.

What's the best book you've read?

As an English Literature grad, I love the classics and Canadian authors like Margaret Atwood. However, I’m not reading as much as I would like nowadays.

What do you do?

I'm an accredited corporate director and bring experience in stakeholder engagement and community building, gained through my 28 years of public service and 18 years as the Mayor of the District of Saanich.

What's your career background?

My co-operative background includes 15 years as Chair of the Municipal Finance Authority and I've chaired or served on numerous other boards that require continuous engagement with their communities and key stakeholders.

What's your education?

I have a Master's Degree in History from the University of Victoria.

What community initiative or program are you most passionate about and why?

I'm passionate about supporting entrepreneurs, and I teach a small business course at UVic.

Christian Morrison

What do you do?

I bring corporate financial management and a passion for leadership development and member care to the Coast Capital board. I'm active in my community as a music director and volunteer musician.

What's your career background?

I'm an ICD.D-accredited director and a former Senior Vice President of RBC Financial Group. I have over 28 years of experience in financial services across Canada, including roles as CEO and President, Royal Bank Mortgage Corporation, Chairman, RBC Action Direct and Vice President Personal Markets, Lower Mainland BC.

What's your education?

I have an MBA from Concordia University, a Professional Coach designation from Erickson College and a Bachelor of Music from McGill University.

What community initiative or program are you most passionate about and why?

Anything that makes music (listening or playing) accessible to people who otherwise couldn't experience it - especially young people and seniors. Music has always been such an important part of who I am and it moves me when I see how it inspires and uplifts people and makes our community healthier.

Chris Trumpy

What do you do?

Since leaving the public service, I have worked as a consultant on several projects, as well as serving on boards such as Pacific Sport Victoria, Coast Opportunities Fund and Puget Sound Energy. I bring governance and financial experience to the Coast Capital Savings Board as well as my commitment of service to the community.

What's your career background?

I'm a former Deputy Minister of Finance in BC. As the Deputy Minister, I was responsible for the legislation and government policies related to the Financial Institutions Commission (the agency that regulates BC's credit unions) and the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation, among other duties.

What's your education?

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of British Columbia. I'm also a Certified General Accountant and an ICD.D certified director.

When you're not at work, what do you like to do with your time?

I'm an avid cyclist and enjoy discovering new biking trails in my community.

What do you do?

I'm Chief Innovation Officer for Providence Health Care and EVP Research for the Providence Health Care Research Institute. I lead the corporate innovation strategy, partnerships and health innovation related to St. Paul's Hospital redevelopment.

What's your career background?

I've served as CEO of an international technology company, as a public sector CEO for one of Canada's largest Venture Capital fund-of-funds, and in BC's public service as an Assistant Deputy Minister. My previous board experience includes serving on non-profit and national research boards.

What's your education?

I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia, MBA and Executive Leadership with Royal Roads University, and the University of California, Berkeley (Haas School of Business).

Favourite band or musician?

I enjoy everything from chamber music to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I'm the founder of the strategy consulting company, Catalyst Solutions Ltd. I'm also a board member of the Canadian Media Fund and LIFT Philanthropy Partners.

I've served as President/CEO of several companies including Electronic Arts Canada, Rogers Cable TV BC and BC Hot House – a growers' cooperative.

What's your education?

I received my BCom from the University of British Columbia and I hold an ICD.D certified corporate director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?

Roxie is a tough, opinionated Alpha female 5 ½ pound purebred teacup Maltese. Nickname is killer. She's also a big Canucks fan.
