Youth Get It Community Council FAQ

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions that might be of help before you apply. However, if you don’t find the answer you are looking for here, please contact us at: youngleaders@coastcapitalsavings.com.

Q: How do I apply and when is the deadline for applications?

A: Online applications will be available here in Fall 2018.

Q: Do I need to submit a video?

A: No, submitting a video is optional.

Q: How will I know if I have been selected for an interview?

A: Our primary contact method will be via email but we do ask to have a phone number on file should we need to contact you by telephone.
Remember, those shortlisted for an interview must provide two letters of reference.

Q: I’ve been invited for an interview, what are you looking for in a reference letter?

A: Your reference should speak to your leadership skills, your active engagement in community initiatives and volunteerism, particularly as it relates to our three youth-focused funding areas (Financial Empowerment, Educational Success, and Healthy Minds), as well as your general character.

Q: Does my reference letter need to be signed?

A: We prefer reference letters to be signed; however, an electronic signature (or typed signature) is acceptable. Please ensure your letter of reference includes contact information for the writer.

Q: Who should the reference letters be addressed to?

A: The members of the Youth Get It Community Council will be reviewing the applications. Please address the letters to either ‘The Youth Get It Community Council’ or ‘To Whom it May Concern’.

Q: Can I mail any of my application information (i.e. resume or references)?

A: Unfortunately, we can only accept electronic copies in .doc, .docx, and PDF formats. If you cannot obtain an electronic copy, we suggest that you electronically scan your physical copy and attach the scanned version to your online application. If you do not have a scanner, please visit your local copy centre and ask them to assist you. We cannot accept sealed letters of reference.

Q: Do I have to complete the online application all at once?

A: No, you have the option of saving your partially complete application and returning to finish it later; you will be given instructions on how to do this once you begin the online application. However, once you submit your application, you no longer have online access.

Q: I live outside of the Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and the Vancouver Island areas you’ve described. Can I still apply?

A: The Youth Get It Community Councils help youth in the communities where they live, work and play, so living in the region you are applying for is a big help. We will consider applications from outside these areas but you must have demonstrated familiarity with the area and available to attend meetings, designated events, and other council functions that take place in region you are applying for (Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island). Meetings for Fraser Valley typically take place at our Help Headquarters; our Vancouver Island meetings take place at our Island Administration Office in Victoria and remotely from our Nanaimo branch for our representatives in the mid-Island; while Metro Vancouver locations vary.

Q: I see that the Youth Get It Community Councils are active on Social Media, is that an expectation of the position?

A: Being active on social media isn't a requirement, but we love spreading the word about the great work our Councils do, and what better way to do this than on social media? While having a social media presence is not a requirement, when appropriate, we enjoy seeing our Council members spreading the word on social media as well.
