Don began his career working with B.C. credit unions. He moved into more senior roles with financial institutions across Canada and internationally before returning to become the Chief Financial Officer of Coast Capital in 2009. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 2014. Don studied mathematics and finance at the University of Toronto and the Stern School of Business at New York University, and is a Chartered Accountant. He was elected in 2015 to the Board for the Canadian Credit Union Association. Don was selected as CFO of the Year by Business in Vancouver magazine in 2013. He enjoys working with the talented and collaborative people at Coast Capital Savings in providing Simple financial help® to our members and volunteers in his community by coaching youth athletics.
Wayne Berg

Chief Commercial Officer

Wayne leads the Commercial Banking Group, comprised of Small Business, Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Equipment Financing via the Coast Traveler's Group, and Payments and Cash Management. He brings over 30 years of commercial/retail banking and wealth management experience attained via progressively senior roles at Lloyds Bank Canada and HSBC. Wayne holds a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Alberta and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors program. A committed community builder, Wayne has served on the Vancouver Celebration of Lights Festival Board, Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, United Way, and a Miracle Maker Panel member for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Wayne is Immediate Past National Chair of Hong Kong Canada Business Association (Vancouver), Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide (Hong Kong), a member of the BCIT Foundation Advisory Board and is a member of the Surrey Board of Trade and the Urban Development Institute.

Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer

As Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, Helen is responsible for developing Coast Capital Savings' enterprise innovation capabilities, creating and implementing sustainable processes to support a culture of innovative, out-of-the-box thinking. Helen is leading the Enterprise Analytics and Legal teams, and developing the Enterprise Innovation Hub, a forum for all Coast Capital members and employees to bring their ideas forward. Helen and her team also provide oversight to existing partnerships, and are responsible for developing new strategic opportunities. An accomplished executive with a proven track record in identifying new opportunities, Helen’s experience in the credit union sphere enhances both member and staff engagement. Prior to joining Coast Capital, she was Senior Vice President, Strategy and Analytics at Pacific Blue Cross, and held senior executive positions at Central 1, Credential Financial Inc., and Northwest and Ethical Investments. Helen is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a BA in Commerce from the University of Toronto. She has sat on numerous boards, including Fraser Health Authority, E-Comm 911, Credential Financial Inc., and Central 1 Trust Company.

Chief Marketing Officer

Lawrie manages all aspects of branding and is responsible for identifying and developing key marketing and public relations strategies. Her departmental portfolio includes Brand & Advertising, Public Affairs, Communications, Community Leadership, Member Loyalty Marketing, Research and Products. She holds a BCom in Marketing from the University of British Columbia. Her marketing team was named Marketer of the Year by the BC Chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2006 and has been recognized as a "Marketer that Matters" by Marketing magazine. Lawrie is also on the Board of Directors for The Boys and Girls Club, a charitable organization that provides essential services to Canadian families, such as safe places for children to play, counselling services to at-risk youth and creating employment opportunities.

David Gaskin

Chief Financial Officer

David oversees the development of all corporate revenue, expense and capital expenditure plans and budgets. He is responsible for managing Coast Capital’s audit and accounting policies, and ensures we maintain compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, specifically as they apply to financial affairs and business operations. His passion for Coast Capital Savings and the credit union sector has allowed him to provide financial leadership to our organization through two mergers, many acquisitions, and challenging economic times. His senior financial experience has contributed to our achievement of strong profits year after year. David holds a BSc Economics degree from the University of Victoria, a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. Passionate about our communities, David serves on the Board of Directors for both the Greater Vancouver YMCA and the BC Credit Union Pension Trust.

As Chief Operating Officer, Kathy is responsible for developing strategy, direction and leadership for Coast Capital Savings lines of business: Retail, Wealth Management, and Life Insurance. Prior to joining Coast Capital, Kathy held senior positions with CIBC and HSBC Canada. Kathy is currently a Director of the Board for Glentel, a Canadian wireless product and service provider. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, a graduate of the Queen’s University Executive Program, and a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade. Committed to the community, Kathy is Vice-Chair of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and has been actively involved with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the YWCA, and BC Children’s Hospital.

Bruce Schouten

Chief Risk Officer

As Chief Risk Officer, Bruce contributes to the strategic direction of Coast Capital through the development and implementation of risk management strategies, policies, and processes in support of Coast Capital’s business goals. Bruce leads the effort to ensure that Coast has a comprehensive risk management process to identify, assess, monitor, and reports the key risks that Coast Capital faces, while developing appropriate strategies to mitigate risk factors that could interfere with the credit union’s strategy, reputation, and business objectives.

He brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, previously holding senior positions at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), and TD Bank. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a BSc in Computer Science and Business Administration from the University of Guelph and a MBA from the Ivey School of Business, Western University.

Bruce is a collaborative individual who works effectively to improve our business results, member experience, and supports financial well-being while building first-class risk management capabilities.

Chief Business Transformation Officer

Jeff holds overall responsibility for Coast Capital’s information technology operations and services, enterprise project management, and process re-engineering. During his 17-year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York and Los Angeles, he became a partner of the firm, and led large-scale program implementations for Alberta Health Services, Microsoft, Symantec, Allergen, DreamWorks Animation, and several financial institutions. A graduate of Simon Fraser University, Jeff holds a degree in Business Administration and is a Chartered Accountant. With his background in business transformation, Jeff ensures requirements for technology, processes and people successfully align to Coast Capital's many technology-based projects, enhancing the organization’s ability to effectively deliver simple financial help to members.
